      Carol Felts has been employed as a nurse practitioner with Carilion Saint Albans Behavioral Health since June 2014. Both her undergraduate and graduate degrees were obtained from Radford University. She has been a nurse practitioner for 12.5 years, with certifications in both family practice and geriatrics. She has 25 years of nursing experience and has worked in various inpatient settings including the emergency room, cardiology, and a medical surgical/telemetry unit. She has worked at Bluefield Regional Hospital in Bluefield, Virginia, and at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse. Carol worked in an outpatient family practice as a family nurse practitioner for four years, which is where she became interested in mental health care. An opportunity for a nurse practitioner opened up with an outpatient psychiatrist in Bluefield, Virginia, where she was employed there for six years, treating children, adults, and geriatric patients with various mental health conditions. The Southwestern Virginia and Southern West Virginia region has a vast diversity of patients who live in extreme rural areas that do not have access to healthcare services including mental health care services. Carol considers herself fortunate and humbled to have worked with these patients. A vast array of knowledge was gained in the 6 years she worked at Psychiatric Associates of the Virginias. Carol has been working for Carilion Saint Albans Hospital for 7.5 years as a nurse practitioner. The inpatient setting has been a great experience because she not only cares for a patient's mental health condition, but is also able to utilize her family nurse practitioner experience to treat their acute and chronic health conditions.
