Provided by YP.comDoes a free meal get you a good review? I don't think so. We were in Chincoteague Island, VA for the Oyster Festival with some friends of 40 years. That evening we wanted to go somewhere special for dinner and AJ's was recommended to us. We went to play Putt-Putt at 6p as that is what the ladies wanted and we got next door to AJ's at about 8:30p. The parking lot was still full. Turns out at least half were there for the bar and musician, so we did get a table within 5 min. but it was the only free table. We looked at the menus and our friends ordered the NY Strips while we ordered Delmonicos (rib eyes). Within 5 min. the waitress was back telling us that they were out of Delmonicos. 2,700 people came to town that Saturday for the oyster festival on a 3 day weekend. And they were out steaks. Oh well. So my wife and I decided to split the ONE remaining NY Strip they had and ordered it medium rare. It took quite a while for the steaks to come out and we were all really hungry by then. It turned out that our steak was rare, very rare, but we found this out after we had cut it in half. I asked the waitress if that is what they called medium rare and she said no. She offered to take it back to have it cooked more and I said not that would just ruin both pieces. A little while later she told me that she had told the manager what had happened. At the end of the evening when she brought me the check she said that they did not charge me for the steak we had split. The bill still came to $165.00. I have no idea who this mysterious manager was as they never came by the table to talk to us. Needless to say we won't be going back on our next trip to Chincoteague.
