- Medical Weight LossOn average, people who quit smoking gain about 10 pounds, and it can be mainly attributed to two factors; (1) You eat more. If you’re not smoking, you want to put something in your mouth. And since you’re not smoking, you’ll be smelling and tasting foods better, leading to eating more sugary and sweet foods. (2) Your metabolism slows. Nicotine increases your metabolic rate, so when you stop your metabolic rate slows and leads to gradual weight gain. At AWH, we can assist you to not only stop smoking, but also how to best avoid weight gain.

- Cervical CancerPap smear results come back as normal, unclear, or abnormal. A positive result means your sample contained abnormal cells, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you have cervical cancer. Dr. Kafali-Nazarof uses two primary procedures to learn more about your cervical tissue. (1) Colposcopy - Dr Kafali uses a microscope to examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva for signs of disease, and sometimes collects a small tissue sample for additional testing. The procedure takes about 20 minutes and is relatively painless. After any biopsy sample, some women will experience light bleeding, vaginal discharge, or slight vaginal pain that may for 1 or 2 days after the procedure. (2) Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) is another way to test and treat abnormal cervical cells. This procedure is performed if you have high-grade abnormal cells on your cervix. During the LEEP procedure, Dr Kafali-Nazarof will remove the abnormal tissue so it can be tested for cancer. During the procedure, she applies an anesthetic to the cervix before using the loop to shave off the abnormal cells. the procedure takes about 20 minutes.
- Colon CancerThe key to cancer treatment is early detection. We perform thorough physical examinations, teach self-examination, and employ proven testing on all our patients. Annual gynecological exams are done for all age groups. Screening, testing and education are provided for cervical, ovarian, breast, and colon cancer.

- Endometrial AblationThis is outpatient procedure that you may consider in cases where you frequently experience bleeding between periods, heavy flow, or have long lasting periods. In cases where medicine does not work, EA can curb bleeding, and in some cases totally stop it.
- LaparoscopyA traditional open GYN surgery requires either a low transverse incision (like a cesarean incision) or a vertical incision from the pubic bone to just above the navel. This size of this incision can result in a lengthy recovery of approximately six weeks and an increased risk of infection for some patients. Patients are also often left with a large scar and some abdominal muscle weakness following the procedure. Both laparoscopy and robot-assisted surgery require smaller incisions, which result in a quicker recovery for the patient and decreased risk of infection. The tools used to perform laparoscopic procedures are rigid and do not allow for the extended range of mobility offered by the instruments used during robot-assisted surgery. As a result, procedures that are often challenging to perform with laparoscopy are made easier with robot-assisted surgery.
