- Dental ExaminationFrom a routine exam and cleaning to full-mouth rehabilitation, Sonrisa Family Dental is equipped to handle all of your dental needs. To help you understand more about our office, we have included brief descriptions of some of our most common services on this page.
- X-rays
- Oral Cancer ScreeningYour first visit to our office is very important with regard to establishing your oral health baseline. We will begin by carefully reviewing your medical and dental history and taking special note of all of your dental concerns, as well as any symptoms that you may be experiencing. This will be followed by a thorough clinical examination of your teeth, their supporting structures and the complete orofacial area; this involves the taking of x-rays as well as direct evaluation of the oral cavity by the dentist. Further examination would include an oral cancer screening, periodontal (gum) evaluation, an analysis of your occlusion (bite).
- Teeth CleaningThe dentists at Sonrisa Family Dental emphasize a preventative approach to dental care. This is an especially important function for children. Providing the proper instructions for brushing and flossing, and regularly checking the health of patient’s gums and teeth, is an excellent way to spot dental conditions early on, before they have the chance to develop into issues that are more complicated to treat. This is a wise method of providing dental care, advised by the American Dental Association, and helps to spare many of our patients the additional expense of various invasive procedures. Coming in just two times a year for checkups and teeth cleanings allows our dentists to perform the critical preventive care our patients need.
- Fluoride TreatmentAs part of an effort to guard against childhood dental decay we recommend periodic fluoride treatments and dental sealants placed on the biting surfaces of the back teeth.
- Dental SealantsAdditional preventive services may be indicated for individual patients. An integral part of our preventive program for pediatric patients includes periodic fluoride treatments and the application of dental sealants.
- Fillings
- VeneersPorcelain veneers, sometimes called tooth veneers, can be used to correct both color and shape of teeth which make for a great smile makeover.

With regular hours from Monday through Saturday, getting in to see one of our specialists shouldn't be a problem. Offering sedation options for patients with dental anxiety or phobia, our staff is committed to keeping you at ease and out of pain during your visit.
- BridgesWhen teeth are missing a series of events can occur, mostly shifting of teeth that could compromise chewing function and efficiency. The adjacent teeth may start to drift or tilt into the space and teeth in the opposing jaw may start to shift toward the area of the missing tooth. It is therefore important to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth that have been lost. One of the best options to prevent the consequences of shifting teeth and to provide replacement to missing teeth is a dental bridge.
- Dental BondingAlso, as explained before treatment, teeth whitening procedures do not change the color of existing fillings, crowns, bridgework, or dental bonding. If this issue presents an aesthetic concern, we can discuss replacing a restoration.
- Root Canal TreatmentA root canal is a space within the tooth’s root. Some teeth have 2-3 roots. Within this space is nerve and a blood supply termed the “pulp†which is the soft inner tissue that plays an important role during the tooth's development. Once a tooth is fully mature, the tooth can survive without the pulp because the tooth is nourished by tissues surrounding it and no longer needs to grow or develop. The pulp is normally surrounded and protected by a layer of “dentin†which is protected by the enamel, the whitish outer coating of your tooth that is visible to the eye and provides protection.Â
- Deep CleaningBecause you’ve just had a deep cleaning to remove bacterial plaque and tartar beneath the gumline; you may experience some sensitivity to cold and hot food or beverages as well as some soreness and residual bleeding around the gums. This type of discomfort is to be expected and should subside within a day or two. While it’s not typically necessary, our office will recommend over-the-counter pain medication as needed. If any excessive bleeding is present, or your sensitivity worsens, contact our office.
- DenturesThere are several types of dentures that depends on a patient’s needs. Dentures are based on the amount of natural teeth remaining in the mouth to support them or if there are no teeth present. Dentures are also classified on the types of materials used to fabricate them. Â
- Overdentures
- Dental ImplantsIt is imperative that the dentist performing the implant be experienced and skilled in all the proper techniques of implant dentistry. When done successfully, an implant will result in a comfortable and natural looking tooth, thereby providing a permanent solution to a missing tooth.
- Oral Surgery
- Gum SurgeryLeft untreated, gingivitis can escalate into periodontitis. However, there are other factors that can contribute to the escalation of periodontal disease, including smoking, genetic tendencies, and unchecked diabetes. In either case, when periodontal disease has progressed to a more advanced stage there is usually clinical and radiographic evidence of damage to the bone and soft tissues supporting the teeth. Periodontal treatment in this phase is designed to halt the progression of the disease and to restore tooth support as possible. This may involve medications to control the bacteria and reduce the size of the pockets between the teeth and gums, gum surgery, as well as bone and tissue grafts.
- Tooth ExtractionsTooth extraction or removal is indicated for various reasons. Extractions are commonly performed in cases where a deciduous “baby†tooth is reluctant to fall out, a severely broken down and non-restorable tooth is present, or “wisdom tooth†is poorly positioned and unable to fully erupt into place. Extractions can also be apart of an orthodontist’s treatment plan where crowding of teeth is an issue and removing a tooth would create more space.
