General Info
A Powerful Resource for Black Health BDO is the world's largest and most comprehensive online health resource specifically targeted to African Americans. As much as we'd love for healthcare to be one-size-fits-all, the reality is that this is not the case today's Black community has higher incidences of just about every major disease and condition out there, as well as shorter life spans. BDO understands that the uniqueness of Black culture our heritage and our traditions plays a role in our health. We also understand that there's a lot of mistrust of the healthcare system. That mistrust, combined with all the contradictory information in the media today, makes it difficult to truly feel in control of your health, and your life. But BDO gives you access to innovative new approaches to the health information you need in everyday language so you can break through the disparities, gain control and live your life to its fullest. Guided by the leading physicians, BDO provides essential, but difficult to find, health resources for you and your family, including free referrals to the top Black physicians and health articles that focus on both culturally accurate content, as well as general health topics ( yes, Blacks suffer from conditions like diabetes more, but they can break an arm, too ). Let us help you see how good it feels to be in control of living a healthier, happier life! BDO Symptom Checker. This comprehensive tool is designed to address your symptom concerns, provide possible causes and prevention tips and alert you to when you need to call a doctor. Culturally Specific Advertisements. Key treatment and drug offerings that cater to the specific needs of the Black community. BDO Find-A-Doctor Search Tool. A searchable directory of qualified black doctors, including primary care physicians, specialists, even dentists. Community Blogs. Today's most thought-provoking information from health writers and doctors, all in a fun and engaging format. The visionary behind BDO is Reginald Ware. Reggie has over 20 years of healthcare marketing experience and has worked with African American doctors the majority of those years. Reggie's background includes magazine publishing, public relations, website management, television production/sales, sales training and consulting. Reggie is the original founder of Heart & Soul Magazine, which was the first healthy lifestyle magazine for African American women. In its prime, Heart & Soul touched the lives of over one million African Americans. Heart & Soul was eventually sold to BET and Vanguarde Media. During Reggie's tenure as head of his public relations firm, leading physicians and dentists were featured in major media outlets from Cosmo, Glamour, Vogue, and Essence magazines to the Oprah Winfrey show. Reggie is now the CEO of BlackDoctor.org and has created a powerful new resource for African Americans. BDO is devoted exclusively to the strategies, tactics and health advice that will help African Americans live healthier, happier lives. Ware graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Marketing and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Whitney has over ten years of experience as a journalist and editor, five of these focused specifically in medicine, diet and fitness. Her background includes television, radio and magazine reporting, and she has been a contributing writer for multiple publications and media outlets, including Essence, MTV, NBC and BET, to name just a few. Whitney truly believes that better health is the key to an outstanding life. As the editor of BlackDoctor.org, it is Whitney's passionate goal to help African Americans avoid all the preventable health disparities that exist today by delivering culturally accurate health information. From diabetes to HIV/AIDS, colon cancer to asthma, if people have the right information, they'll be in a position to make more educated health decisions. Dr. Randall W.
