- The Southern African American Heritage Center is dedicated to collecting, documenting and preserving the contributions of African Americans in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. We have a permanent display on Cheraw's most famous native son, John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie, a pioneer of "Bebop" jazz music.
