Founded in 1819, University of Virginia is a public educational institution located in Charlottesville, Va. The university offers more than 50 bachelor s degrees, over 80 master s degrees, educational specialist degrees and nearly 50 doctoral degrees. It organizes a range of athletic events that include cross country, baseball, basketball, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track, field hockey and wrestling. The college has a library that houses a collection of books, databases, genealogical information, images, journals, manuscripts, statistical data and reference materials. In addition, it conducts research activities in association with national laboratories, such as the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Jefferson National Laboratory. University of Virginia offers graduate programs in history of art and architecture, biomedical sciences, creative writing, sociology, nursing and religious studies.
