I had my first date with my husband here and we go back for dinner all the time because the food is so good! Almost every time we come we get the crab quesadilla and barbacoa and share because both are wonderful. This is a little more upscale for Mexican and is a go to place for us when we have people in town and want to go to dinner. It does get busy so there may be a wait but, there is a good bar area so just get a margarita and wait for your table because the food is well worth it!

I love Cantina. This is usually our go to for birthdays, celebrations, etc. Love the table made guacamole and the food is awesome. Not to mention the drinks... But it's an awesome atomosphere and always a fun crowd. Definitely one of Charlotte's best.

My boyfriend and I had dinner here a few days ago. I love Mexican food, and Cantina just did not do it for either one of us. We were excited about the gaucamole alive, but were let down after the 1st chip. It took forever for the person to come out and then the person was all sweaty and it just wasn't appealing.
I had the shrimp tacos which were ok, kind of flavor less, just like the salsa, and my boyfriend had some enchiladas that, well, for lack of a better phrase kept him up all night after our movie date...
I hope this helps, but over all, rude hostess, short wait staff, syrupy drinks, and flavorless food. I doubt we will be going back. Over priced and over rated.

I have eaten at Cantina a few times and have always enjoyed the food it a great choice when looking for god Mexican food at a middle of the road price. I highly recommend their freshly made guacamole just be careful not to fill up on it before your main meal arrives.
While the food is great the service is sometimes slow, I have had excellent service but also some very poor service. Either way the food out weighs the sometimes spotty service.

I couldn't agree more with other customers saying that this is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've tried. I'm the typical picky eater, but have been pleased with EVERY dish I've had. I've only visited the East Blvd location, but each time all of the staff were friendly & had no problems with the ordering, etc. There is, however a longer wait that I would like on Thurs - Sat, but hey, I'm sure the owner loves that problem. They deserve to be this busy. Really great food, great atmosphere! You should try it yourself.

Cantina 1511 was such an amazing surprise. If you go in expecting the typical fare you get in most chain Mexican restaurants, swimming in grease and cheese, you will be disappointed. The food was truly authentic Mexican cuisine, the same as I have experienced in Mexico City and other trips to the country. We went to the Ballantyne location but I'm sure the Dilworth location is equally as good. The guacamole was as fresh as you can get it - prepared right in front of you at the table. I had the Tacos al Pastore. The combination of the super tender pork, pineapple and habanero sauce was simply to die for. I ordered it on a flour tortilla but after a discussion with the manager, he recommended next time to order on a soft corn for another unique taste. We were going to skip dessert because we were so full and had asked for the check. To our surprise, a complimentary piece of the Nutella cake was given to us. Definitely worth the extra calories. The staff, from the hostess, waiter to the manager were top notch - all experts in customer service and so very accomodating. I only wish I remembered their names to give them proper credit. The only negative thing I can say was the wait time is pretty long. And that's not even a negative - it's an indication of the great food you can expect.
A girlfriend and I ate at Cantina last friday night. The experience was ok. We did not have a reservation and knew that there would be a wait, we come here often and it is always busy, so this was not unusual. We were told by a woman at the front door that our wait would be about an hour. Drinks were recieved at the bar by a very kind and patient blonde bartender, and we moved to have a seat at a high top table. Soon after we sat down a dark haired girl asked if we would like chips and salsa and we oblidged. As soon as our drinks got low she asked if she could get us another round. Bar service was very prompt and efficient. After an hour and fifteen minutes had passed I went to the front and asked how much longer and the woman up front with long brown hair shortly responded that they were busy and they would get us seated when they could. Another ten minutes passed and the waitress in the bar seemed to notice our frustration and let us know we were able to recieve full service in the bar. We decided to stay in the bar because the waitress(Mary I think?) was very kind and positive. I ordered Pollo Lareda and it came out raw. I order it often so I know it was probably an honest mistake. Our server was very apologetic and insisted on getting me a new one. I told her i would just have the pork plate my friend was having instead. She smiled and apologized again and i had my new food within five minutes. She assured us she would have a manager speak with us. Shortly after the rude girl from the front door appeared at our table. She made a very brief appearance asking if everything tasted good, we said yes, and she said ""sorry about the chicken"" and walked away. Overall the service staff was excellent and aside from the mistake with my Pollo Lareda, the food was wonderful as well. Perhaps you should reevaluate your management staff, or at least instruct them on how to deal with customers in a hospitable way.
Aside from this experience I enjoy Cantina and will return.
Just been to Cantina 1511 after having heard some good things. The area we sat in was nice and cosy. The food tasted great. The service was good and we will definitely be going back. We had the steak quesadilla and the Barbaroa de Percoa (or something like that) - it was mexican barbecue pork with rice and beans, shredded cheese, salad, guacamole and pico de gallo - very yummy. I saved some for later too!

My husband and I just had a very positive dining experience at Cantina 1315! I was a little apprehensive after reading all of the ""bad"" reviews but our experience couldn't have been better. The waiter was attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. We wanted something authentic and asked him to choose for us. The food was excellent, the guacamole was the best I have ever had, and the mojito a delight. What a delightful experience. We would recommend it to all.

After reading reviews we were worried that service would be bad, especially since the parking lot was quite full when we arrived. However, there were absolutely no problems with service for us (perhaps because it was Sunday night.) I can't speak for the authenticity of the food, but it tasted really good, and was out quickly. The server was knowledgeable about what was better between A or B (always ask your server to find out how good the service is!) Drinks were nothing to write home about but I can't understand why people needed to send them back. Pretty impressive tequila list.

I've been to Cantina twice, and both times, the bad service far outweighed the good food. The first time I went with a friend, and we sat outside on the patio. After our meal, we were having a drink when the waiter came up and asked us to leave our table because people were waiting. I was horrified at his rudeness and vowed to never go back. Several months later, I went again, this time with friends on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered a pitcher of sangria. When the bill came, it was significantly higher than the menu price for the sangria. We notified our waitress, and then we overheard her saying to another staff member, ""Yeah, they saw the price on the menu. We need to change it."" It seemed as though they were intentionally overcharging us, but since we caught them, they had to change it back. Never again!

This is the 3rd time that I have been to Cantina and I finally felt compelled to write a review. My wife loves to go here because of the Guacamole dip, but this time it was unbearable. The service is awful, whether you are waiting in the bar or on your food. It takes a while for the server to come to you and then you wait for an appetizer , but our dinners came out about 5 minutes later so you cannot enjoy the appetizer and my wife's order was wrong. It was also funny to see many of the tables around us having problems as well. Overall the food was good and the wait was not bad, but the service is terrible and hopefully they will fix all of the problems.

Is Cantina like having tex-mex in San Antonio? No, but it is always solid and consistant. I go 2-3 times a month because the food is good and the prices fair. Even if i'm not in the mood for anything there is always something on the menu that catches my eye. Don't go in expecting traditional mexican food b/c they don't really have it, what they have is flavorful Tex-Mex and they do a great job at it.

This is a great place for Mexican with a twist. Not the average food, salsa or anything else that we have come to have to eat here in Charlotte that is called Mexican. This place is anything but average. The food is wonderful and the best guacamole that I've had since Cabo- its very pricey but worth it! The staff is just ok-not exactly friendly but it is very busy most of the time. I think that the kitchen staff needs help as they are SLOW SLOW SLOW; We go often and the wait to get our food is way to long. If you get an app then tell them to still put your order in or they hold it a bit. Really great food but YES expensive compared to avg Mexican.

I am not usually somone who writes on these kind of sites, but my experience at Cantina 1511 was so amazing I could not resist. I went there this Saturday evening and and had the time of my life. I went with about three other girlfriends for dinner. Our service was excellent, they were constantly filling our drinks and chips. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. The food tasted incredible, and being someone who really is not a fan of mexican food, this means a lot. The portions were very generous, I think we all were carrying to go boxes at the end of the night. The manager was very friendly, going from table to table making sure everything was alright and making light conversation with the guests. After dinner we ended up spending most of our evening in the bar, because the atmospere was so much fun. There was music and a good crowd. I will be going back again this weekend, and I will be recommending this restaurant to all my relatives and friends.

I went to Cantina 1511 on East Blvd. here in Charlotte on Saturday night and have to say it was the worst dining experience I have had in my 27 years on this lovely earth.
I was with a party with 6 other ladies and we had a reservation for 6pm. We sat around 6:20pm which they said was fine because we were still waiting for a couple of people. They kept mentioning how they had a reservation for another bigtop for 8pm and I guess they insisted on sitting at the table we were at? We did not request this special table (AKA The Fishbowl) but they sat 7 people who were having dinner and drinks there at 6:20pm expecting them to be out at 8pm.
So as 8pm starts nearing, the very rude blonde manager kept prancing by our table glaring at us and checking his watch at the same, how trite. We finally mentioned to our waitress(I think her name was Terri and she was great and fabulous service!) how the manager treated us and how rude he was. He came to our table, tried to reiterate the point that he told us that there was another reservation for 8pm. We repeated told him how rude he was treating us and he insisted that he was right and since we were customers giving them business, paying for entrees and I am sure, overpriced alcoholic drinks, that we were wrong. To make it worse, the OWNER came over and pretty much treated us like we were teenagers at Denny's ordering water and splitting appetizers and telling us we were rude and wrong in this situation.
All in all, I will never go to Cantina again. Or Mama Ricotta's, which is also owned by the Frank Scibelli. I have never been treated that poorly as a customer before and discourage anyone from giving their time or business to this audascious restaurant.

I went to this restaurant last night for the first time with a group of 6 people. We had a reservation for 6, but unfortunately, a couple of people were running late. The manager was extremely rude, and wanted to know where they were, and when we last talked to them. He then told us that we needed to be done and out of our table at 8. He'd walk by looking at his watch, and glaring at us, and then came over at 8 and told us we needed to leave. We were paying customers, had food, drinks and dessert, and we were treated VERY rudely. The Owner then came over, and made no excuses, and said that the Manager was in the right, and that we were told when we made reservations that there was another reservation....which we weren't. The Owner and Manager of this restaurant obviously to do not want patrons there, and obviously do not know what customer service or Southern Hospitality are about.
