The Division of Highways maintains more than 38,000 miles of public roads in West Virginia. It is also responsible for the maintenance of over 34,000 miles of state-owned highways and nearly 830 miles of federally owned roads. The division additionally maintains more than 2,800 miles of municipally owned roads. The Division of Highways administers interstate highways and connectors to other modes of transportation, such as airports, trains and buses. It is responsible for the maintenance of over 1,700 miles of the National Highway System. The division also maintains nearly 6,500 bridges and several byways. The Division of Highways is a part of the West Virginia Department of Transportation.
