I've taken my old car over to them three times. The first time, they fixed my clutch, the second time, they repaired my engine and this time, it was a power steering leak. I took the car to Pep Boys originally, because Holt isn't open on the weekends, and I thought the leak was worse than it was. After getting the price for the hose ($33.00), Pep Boys wanted to charge me $116.00/hr for labor. I got the part from them, and took the car over to Holt and prepaid for the services, in case I needed to pick the car up after they were closed. After getting the car on the lift, I was informed that there were actually leaks in TWO hoses (glad I paid $40.00 at Pep Boys for them to diagnose the problem incorrectly), and that the part I ordered was incorrect (this was after I called and double checked, because after looking into the part I found out there were two hoses and needed to make sure that was the proper one) and they would need to repair both. I explained that I needed my car ASAP, so if the parts needed to be ordered, I'd pick it up and they could do the repair after the parts came in. They assured me that I could pick the car up the next day and talked to them at noon the next day to get a status. They were working on it, and it was ready to go by 3:00. When I arrived, I COMPLETELY expected to pay more, since they fixed two hoses instead of one and had to get different parts; he didn't charge me a penny more than I had already paid and handed me my keys. To quote my father, who was helping me along the way (who is also a mechanic, but in a different state), "you've got a good mechanic". I couldn't agree more.

Nothing less than the best

Dedicated, friendly, and caring. These are the words that best describe the people and atmosphere at Charleston Transmisson. My name is Ashton and my brother and I recently had work done to our respective trucks. The work done on them was exceptional and they have since run very smoothly. Last week, my mother's brakes failed on her Ford Expedition and she needed someone to check them out and get an estimate on how much it would cost to fix the brakes. She did not hesitate for second to bring the vehicle to Charleston Transmission. After Jeff inspected the vehicle, he said it needed all new brakes and rotors. At the time, my mother did not have enough money to get it fixed. Instead of turning her away, he said he could go ahead and fix the vehicle and she could pay him back as soon as she could since having the vehicle operational was extremely important. The work done on the car was once again exceptional and fast and we paid for the work a few days later. I highly recommend this repair shop to everyone because it is an awesome shop filled with caring people who do the job right the first time.

Honest and to be Trusted

I started going to Charleston Transmission under the advise of a counter person at Advance Auto about a year ago. The problem was minor and Jeff was happy to help. Since then, my husband and I have been taking our vehicles to him. About a month ago, after a trip to the store, my oldest daughter informed me that my brakes were gone in my 1987 Chevy Blazer. I took it to Jeff the next day. He said that he would check it out and to call him in a few hours. I did and he informed me that ALL the brake lines were leaking, plus the calipers were bad, brake shoes, pads, drums, rotors-all were involved. He also found other problems that made it unsafe to drive. He told me that it would cost us more to repair than the value of the vehicle itself. Later it was decided to take the Blazer off of the road and Jeff sold it for us.It has been very frustrating having only one vehicle. My husbands S10 is not big enough for 3 bodies.I have to remind myself that Thank God Jeff was honest with my husband and me. Jeff could have just gave the option to fix it and have lots of money in his pocket over a dumpy Blazer. Jeff IS out to make sure his customers are safe, NOT to make a "quick buck". If I had the option of being in major car wreck because of unsafe brakes, or having only an S10 to transport my family-- I pick the later of the two. Jeff is a good, honest man who works hard at his business.

My car no longer runs thanks to a month long repair.

On Monday the 24th Jeff waited around for the transmission until 8 pm. I called him Tuesday to find out that it was received and upon putting it in he discovered that the filter was cracked. He stated that he was getting a new one and it would be put in that afternoon. (March 25th) On Wed. he called and stated that something was wrong with the transmission because it would not engage. He told me that he would call the Ford Factory to see what his options were. Thursday he called to inform me that we could A) order a new transmission which would take a few days to arrive, or B) he could find a ford technician to work on it so that the warranty would not be void. On Friday he called the Ford Factory and spoke with a technician. Over the phone they went over their troubleshooting procedures and discovered that it was a faulty cable going from the computer to the transmission. This was the problem the whole time. Jeff stated that it was hard to find b/c my computer never showed any codes. He then stated that it was a simple fix and that my car would be ready that afternoon. (march 28th) He told me that he would fill up my tank, wash my car and for me to think of something to put on a "wish list" to make it up to me. I arrived around 6pm to find my car in great working order. We both drove around the block and he answered all questions and concerns that I had. I told him that I wanted a gift certificate to Catus Carwash to get the interior cleaned. Jeff and I agreed to meet up on Monday to check on the car and pick up the gift certificate. Well today I arrived around 10:20am to discuss the car. I told him that it was running great. He started to explain to me that it was an electrical problem, not the transmission. He asked if I have ever had transmission problems before and I replied "no". He stated that if I were to take it to Ammaco that they would have kept my car for at least three weeks. He then stated that I had "no real world business knowledge". He then told me that I should have paid for all of the work because my warranty didn't cover electrical problems. He informed my that he lost a customer because of "someones review" as he casually place a copy of my review in front of me. He then stated that I "lied" and exaggerated". I asked him to show me some examples and he failed to prove his accusations. He then told me that he "told me too much information that I couldn't understand". He implied that he wanted me to change my review and I simply told him that it was the truth. In short, he tried to make me feel bad, belittled and insulted my intelligence. He stated that he was glad that the car was running, stated that I still had the remainder of the warranty and to have a nice day. When I asked him if I could get the gift certificate he replied "no" and walked away.

These are the events that I experienced with this business. All of the information I have stated came from Jeff. In the end I had no car for 26 days. Unfortunately this ended badly with no fault of my own.

Since Friday April 4th my car no longer runs. It shifts into neutral constantly while in drive. The electrical repair that was made only lasted a week. Jeff has yet to send me any paperwork and documentation despite a certified letter and several phone calls. He has simply stated that he is too busy to fill out my paperwork. BE VERY CAUTIOUS!!!!!!

Please Read.................

My mothers car had some transmission problems and found this company. She got her car back in great working order within a few days and a two year warrenty. So you can see why I went here. I originally had my transmission rebuilt here in May of 2007. It only took them three days and I had my car back I got the same two year warrenty. Well, recently around 02/2008 my car started to shutter when going into third gear. The problem got worse over the next week. Then it seemed to have a problem shifting into forth gear. I took it to Charleston Transmissions to have them look at it.(March 3rd) I noticed that they had many cars there so I remained very patient for about a week. The second week was hell. The owner Jeff was telling me different things everyday. He never called me to let me know what the status of my car was. On the 5th day I called Jeff and he stated that he ordered a drum for my car, he didn't check that it was the correct one, installed it, then realized that it was wrong. Finally, after a week and a half he called to say my car was ready.(March 12th) I got into my focus and cranked it up to find it running really ruff. I immediately got out of the car to inform Jeff. He claimed that because it the computer had been unplugged for a few days that the engine (mind you it was just transmission work) needed to readjust to the car. I then left and drove down the road about half a mile. During this time I heard a grinding noise followed by a high pitched noise. I then turned around and called Jeff. He claimed that he just test drove it minutes before I arrived and that nothing was wrong with it. I told him that I was leaving it at the shop because the car was in worse condition than it was originally.(This was a wed.) Finally I get a phone call from him on Thursday (the only time he has called) and he informed me that his employee put in something backwards and this scraped the drum. Also that a vacuum hose had been disconnected and that is why it was running ruff. He stated that he would have to order a new drum (third one ordered) and install it. He stated that my car would be ready on Monday (March 16th). I called him on Monday and he told me that he would try to get it done. Alas, it was not done. He promised a pick up on Tuesday. Tuesday came around, no car ready. I went down there again to see that it was on a lift. He promised that it would be ready Wed.. Wed. rolled around, I went down there to pick up my car. He stated that a silonoid was not charging up and that he was going to have to order a Ford Factory Rebuilt Transmission. He stated that he would order it Thursday, recieve it and install it on Friday. Thursday I called to make sure everything was going smooth. He stated that he didn't order it on Wed. and that it would be here Monday.(March 24th) He stated that he was trying to make it work, and if he can get it to then he would not install the new transmission. I have been extremely patient with this matter. When i did try to express my concern about him having my car so long he interrupted me, got upset and told me that I was calling him a liar (which I did not) and told me that he will have to call me back when he has enough time.

This business was great when the initial work was done. But with the warrenty work has been a nightmare. I have been without a car for three weeks on Monday the 24th. Today is Thursday the 20th.

Please re-read this customers complaint again after reading what I have to say, and make up your own mind. Thank you. I did repair her mothers car and her car as stated( 2004 Ford ). She claim's that I never called her, but the very next sentence was everyday I would tell her something new. I probably tried to explain to much to her, however she did show great interest in how transmissions work. With this vehicle finally back in the customers hands running very well. I did stand behind my warranty completly, It did take longer than I would have liked (3 weeks) She was not charged any Money, And the problem turned out to be some faulty wiring from the Computer, Electrical problems are the worst, hardest to find, and take time, that also would explain the different symptoms when I drove and she drove the vehicle. I do not feel she was write to say all she said to the people out there. I did repair her vehicle, at no charge when it turned out to be an electrical problem, also washed and filled up her gas tank upon delivery. I feel that she now is trying to get some kind of payback for it taking so long. I am sorry that it happened this way. She did get her car back running very well. The only bad that came to her is now that her 2004 Ford car has had a electrical problem, I can not hold the warranty any longer.
