Digital Wave was started in 1992 by Michael R. Gorman, Ph.D., whose research at the United States Naval Postgraduate School resulted in a breakthrough in the understanding of guided ultrasonic waves. Digital Wave was formed to further develop the technology and to market instruments for characterizing materials and structures. Digital Wave produced its first instrument, the Fracture Wave Detector, in the fall of 1993. By incorporating a theoretical foundation in the design of this instrument, Digital Wave introduced a new method of nondestructive evaluation known as Modal Acoustic Emission. The company s customers include Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, NASA, the United States Naval Surface Warfare Center and numerous research universities. It also offers inspection services, including tank bottom testing and pressure vessel testing. Digital Wave is headquartered in Centennial, Colo.
