This includes General Chemical s two business segments, water treatment chemicals and electronics chemicals and sulfur products. Its businesses produce performance chemicals, marketed in the Americas, Europe and Far East, to four industry segments that include pharmaceuticals and personal care products, environmental products and services, technology and chemical processing. Its chemicals help purify water, produce semiconductors and printed microcircuits, improve poultry production, control phosphorus run-offs and enhance the production and quality of everything from sports drinks, shrimp and salsa to antiperspirants and paper. The company traces its roots to 1899 when it was created in one of the first mergers in the pioneer United States chemicals industry. Headquartered in Parsippany, N.J., General Chemical operates a network of plants, including Celina, Texas.
