This shop is owned by the pathetic excuse for a human being Gene Hootman. I considered him a friend and came to work for him in Cedar Rapids. I drove my motorhome from Cleveland with my pets, including my squirrel, Smoky. He was my pride and joy. Gene and his shop, Skin Worthy Tattoo, have a poor reputation. Nobody in Cedar Rapids will work for him. Ray told me he is there only because he cannot work anyplace else. Aside from working at Skin Worthy, Ray is a great guy and artist. While I was working there, Smoky, my squirrel I raised from a baby became ill and died. Smoky suffered a horrible death. He was less than three years old. I felt an evil presence at Skin Worthy and I left with no notice. While driving home Gene Hootman told me that he poisoned my squirrel. The evil presence reared his ugly head. I did not believe him until I came home and found the poison that Gene Hootman put in my motorhome. I noticed while I was at Skin Worthy that there are barely any, walk in customers. The customers that do walk in are naive newbies who know nothing about quality tattoos or shops. I left a review and posted on Instagram about Gene killing my squirrel. In retaliation Gene said he was going to have his stepson accuse me of molesting him. Of course he would not use his biological children to make this claim. Using a child to lie about such a thing is, in itself, child abuse. Such desperation to use a fifteen year old to get even with someone who went out of his way to work in his dead shop. Gene Hootman also threatened me with physical violence, stating that he did not even have to do it, he was sending friends. Karma will break it off into Gene Hootman. If you value your health, your skin and your hard earned money, avoid this shop like the plague. There is nothing worthy about Gene Hootman or his shop. Do yourself a favor and either don't get a tattoo or go elsewhere. Buyer beware

A friend and I got tattoos there. My friend got an all black, no shading tribal tattoo that turned out nice. I got one with color and shading and it wasn't good at all. The color was muddy and didn't go to the outline. A week later when I tried to get it retouched I got the run around and have yet to get an appointment to get it touched up. Unless it is a simple and solid black, I recommend finding somewhere else to go.

First off-This is not the store location any more. I have been to both of the new locations and did not like the service I received at either one. I felt like I was being talked down to, like I didn't know what I was talking about. I didn't get any follow up directions for my piercing or my tattoo. The staff wasn't very helpful at answering my questions and were not patient having to wait while I chose my jewelry or tattoo design.

I highly recommend skin worthy for ANY tattoos and piercings, gene does very awesome and very detailed work, they make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door, unlike most places u feel nervous. I got my tat there and my gf got hers done there...gunna be going to get another maybe a few more at skin worthy by gene hootman he is a very very good artist and business owner!!!
