From the moment you meet Dr. Kuempel her passion for dentistry is evident. She takes pride in educating her patients and discussing treatment options. As a board certified periodontist Dr. Kuempel has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty and is certified by the American Board of Periodontology. To be educationally qualified for Board certification requires: Certification as a dentist, including basic college education and completion of dental school to earn the D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree and; Certification as a periodontist after successful completion of an educational program in Periodontology, which is accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Comprehensive qualifying and oral examination covering all phases of periodontal disease and its treatment, including dental implants. Recertification every six years. As a native of Vinton, IA she graduated from the Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo and practiced for 12 years as a Dental Hygienist. During that time, she developed a strong interest in periodontal surgery, which led her to further her education. Dr. Kuempel graduated from the University of Iowa Dental School in 1995, and completed her Periodontal Residency at the University of Iowa in 1998. She has won undergraduate research awards and graduate periodontics awards. Dr. Kuempel opened her Dental practice in December 1998 and received her Board Certification in May 1999. Dr. Kuempel was appointed to the Iowa Dental board from 2001-2010, served as a Chair of the Dental Board from 2007-2010. As a member of the Iowa Dental Board she became active with CRDTS regional testing service. Dr. Kuempel serviced as the President of CRDTS from 2011-2012. She is still actively involved as a member of the exam review committee and calibration committee. Her research on Implant Instrumentation was published in the internationally renowned Journal of Periodontology.
