      The Essex County Hospital Center is operated by the Department of Health and Rehabilitation, which is administered by the government of Essex County in New Jersey. Established in 2006, the hospital provides short-term psychiatric services to residents of the county. It is also the site for various community mental health groups. The hospital houses the Institute for Mental Health Policy, Research and Treatment, which is its academic division and maintains clinical and educational partnerships with several medical schools and related institutions. The Essex County Hospital Center specializes in treating patients with psychotic and metabolic disorders. In addition, the hospital provides workforce development and technology education services.
