      Karen Metcalf is an attorney in solo practice. She has limited her practice to bankruptcy law since 1986, representing consumer debtors in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases. She has extensive experience obtained from handling an estimated 2,500 cases or more, primarily in the Western District of Oklahoma during the mid-1980s and the 1990s when the oil industry was in a severe slump. The oil industry slump took down with it the economy of Oklahoma because of the many independent oil producers located there. During these years, the Western District of Oklahoma Bankruptcy Court averaged between 9,000 and 12,000 cases filed each year. Since receiving her license to practice law in 1986, Ms. Metcalf has attended the annual Bankruptcy Institute seminars and all other local bankruptcy seminars which were offered, comprising an average of two or more seminars each year since 1986. In addition, Ms. Metcalf is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, an organization which is comprised of over 3,000 bankruptcy attorneys located all across the United States who communicate daily with each other on the group’s Listserv, for all the group to read, concerning the various issues which arise in bankruptcy law. Ms. Metcalf received her undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma (1982) and her law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law (1985), and practiced law in Oklahoma City prior to relocating to North Carolina in February 1997. Ms. Metcalf is licensed to practice law in the North Carolina Courts and in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina. In addition, she is also licensed to practice law in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. Ms. Metcalf devotes 100% of her practice to consumer bankruptcy cases.
