• Glaucoma

Glaucoma occurs when the intraocular pressure becomes too high and causes damage to the optic nerve which is the cable between each eye and the brain. Once damage occurs, it is irreversible, and glaucoma is a progressive condition that requires prompt treatment to slow the course of the disease. Because of this, it’s extremely important to have annual eye exams with an optometrist to screen for glaucoma, especially after age 60, as early detection is best for optimal results. Although glaucoma is incurable, it responds to treatment to ease its symptoms.

By making annual eye exams with pupil dilation every year by age 60 and then as directed by your optometrist, you can check for the presence of macular degeneration and other eye diseases to ensure your best eye health.
• Laser Eye Surgery
  If you have a refractive error, such as nearsightedness (myopia),farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism or presbyopia, refractive surgery is a method for correcting or improving your vision. This surgical procedure is used to adjust your eye’s focusing ability by reshaping the cornea, or clear, round dome at the front of your eye. Other procedures involve implanting a lens inside your eye. The most widely performed type of refractive surgery is LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis), where a laser is used to reshape the cornea.

They occur when the natural focusing eye lens behind the pupil becomes cloudy and dense and prevents light from entering your retina.   During medical school, Dr. Garff was the recipient of several merit-based scholarships. He has been actively involved in research throughout his medical career. In medical school, he received an NIH (National Institutes of Health) grant to study ocular blood flow in glaucoma. Dr. Garff has also had multiple peer-reviewed publications on cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy, ocular pharmacology, and dry eye. He has presented research and lectures to his peers at national conferences, as well.
