Provided by YPmobileI tried Dutreys when I first moved to Carlisle in 2011. Although the shoes were good quality and the fitting adequate I was unhappy with my purchase less than a week after my visit. The sales associate did a fantastic job persuading me that the shoes would be superior to the cross trainers I was considering however I discovered that the shoes just weren't what I needed. When I tried to exchange the shoes I was greeted by the sales associate who assisted me with my purchase. He was condescending and unhelpful when I explained why I needed to exchange the shoes and told me that the shoes I was considering were out of stock. I was disappointed with this interaction and felt that a full refund was due. The sales associate gave the refund after much debate and said that the store policy usually doesn't allow refunds because they offer fittings. I refused to return to the store because of the way I was treated by the associate. When my fiancé and I went shoe shopping at the first of the year we decided to give Dutreys another try. Unfortunately a similar scenario occured. We purchased two pairs of shoes spending around $250. The store was bustling with other people looking to make good on their New Years resolutions. Being avid runners my fiancé and I decided to help ourselves while the associates were busy. I was fortunate enough to find the shoes I chose elsewhere for a discount. I tried to return the shoes the next day unworn. The associate who greeted me again explained that no returns were accepted. I asked him where that was posted. He brought to my attention a sign over the children's hiking shoes. I explained to him how that clearly said no return on that particular brand as advertised. The associate went to the manager on duty who said he would not give the return. I calmly responded that if that was a policy it should be displayed and written on the receipt. He scoffed at my rebutle and continued to argue that it was obvious why they wouldn't offer refunds. I responded by saying the shoes were unworn and that I had found them for a better price. After much back and forth I was given a refund with scorn from the manager. When leaving I remarked how unfortunate it is that they couldn't respect their customers needs. The manager mumbled under his breath that he hoped I wouldn't return. I found both these interactions to be cause for this review. I am disappointed that this small business owner wouldnt accommodate my consumer needs. I would caution any potential customer to consider the behavior of the staff before making a purchase. I want to make educated purchases and support small businesses but this business is overdue for a consumer boycott due to the under appreciation of clientele.
