I highly recommend Brevetto for both it's excellent cuisine and good value. Where else in midcoast Maine can you get a first rate gourmet entree for under $20? I ate with three friends who all declared their choices to be excellent and worth a return trip. We shared a few tapas to start and found the unusual Italian sausage braised in wine and served with red grapes to be an unexpected delight. One entree was a pasta carbonara made with another little seen Italian bacon which was tastier and more subtle than the traditional American bacon which can overpower a Carbonara. The eggplant pockets were sublime, consisting of eggplant rolls covered with cheeses and a homemade tomato sauce. The flatbread cheese pizza was similar to the light pizzas one finds all over Italy. The hanger steak was rubbed in an intriguing hot spice combo, marinated in wine and served with delicate mushrooms, making it the best hanger steak I've ever had. All our dishes struck the right balance. Bravo!
