Lake Mead, January 30, 2018 at 8 a.m. Motor home had drive belt broken and front AC compressor seized up. Called Good Sam for a tow to Las Vegas. GS sent All About Auto Service... coming from Bullhead City (90 miles away). His ETA was 11:38. Bruce Gorman and helper arrived at 12:30 without the compressor. He said if sent home now we owed him $600. GS paid to get there, return trip was 1 hours @ $175, didnt even owe $300. He gave extended warranty a guestimate ($1600-$1700). Said he would have a firm estimate+parts in morning. 10:15 am, no Bruce. We called. Said he was in Searchlight, 45 minutes out. Had not called warranty people. Did not have written estimate. Would upon arrival while helper started repair. We stated no warranty approval, no tear down. Showed at noon with firm estimate of $2348.40. Campground had no electricity, Bruce no generator. He used RV generator. Bruce stated if charged credit card add additional 20%. We could find banks in Boulder City. Job completed- engine AC did not work, but belt worked and RV driveable. Bruce suggested we take it to RV mechanic for fix. Findings by RV MECHANIC: Catastrophic failure of New compressor due to incorrect installation. All About Auto Service and Towing replaced compressor and FAILED TO Put in oil, Replace receiver drier, Replace expansion valve, Remove high side pressure switch from backside of original compressor and put in new compressor. Wire which hooks to this switch was found tuck up behind compressor since there was no switch for connection, Repair damaged tension idler, Properly evacuate system and recharge. Additionally, their billing shows Freon charge: 67 ozs. Sticker on RV for Freon: Maximum Freon Fill: 32 ozs Compressor price marked up 30% above normal retail as was Freon price. Mechanic tried to get Bruce to honor his warranty. Bruce wouldnt answer phone after initial contact. Our mechanic correctly installed another compressor -$1450.
