I hate that the only people who seem to make reviews online are the ones who have some personal gripe... This school is absolutely fantastic. I'm sure the other reviewers have their reasons (after all both of their complaints involved tournaments so I'm assuming their kid lost and that's why they're complaining)

The truth is that Master Khechen's is an amazing school. The instructors are not only very talented, but they are patient and extremely caring when it comes to their students. Yes, not every student who earns a belt there is Bruce Lee, but let's be realistic. These are kids and adults who are looking to get in better shape and learn some self defense, not become the next UFC champion.

I'm sorry that some people have had some bad experiences at the school, but that's true of any business. I would just hate to see someone choose not to try it out because one or two people posted negative comments anonymously online.

I love it at Master Khechen's and the school is full of others who love it too!

I am writing less as a complain, but more as a warning. This place has some pleasant instructors here. I just thought I'd see more of the master than I did. That being said, once I got to meet him a couple of times, I decided not to renew my membership. Look elsewhere. I have and I am much happier.

I have to agree with the reviewer below. Unless you are one of Master Khechens or his instructors fav's, you get less attention and are treated differently. And yes, my daughter is not in the click. I will be looking for somewhere new as soon as we are done here.

Decent place with terrible parking. Friendly instruction from many different people. My daughter is enjoying her first month here.

The above review is spot on...

The above review is spot on - you buy your belts - I witnessed a black belt test where during a form a candidate lost her footing, fell on the floor and her weapon skidded across the floor - and she passed!?! I can live with that - after all it's a business not a monastery.

This school is great except for one thing. Master Khechen. He is the type who makes great speeches about integrity and doing the right thing, but does not practice it himself.

I was a spectator at a tournament (all non contact but that's okay) and a low belt squared off against a high belt with Master Khechen as the head judge. Long story short, even though time was up and the official score keeper had it as 2 to 1 for the less experienced fighter, the look of shock on the Master's face was laughable.

He waved it off, declared it 2-2 and tie break, turned to the higher belt (the one he WANTED to win) and said "Come ON!". The lower belt raised his hands as if to say "what?" and the higher belt kicked him, "Point" declared Master Khechen and his prized student "won."

To his credit, the higher belt looked embarrassed, the lower belt took it like a man and said nothing, but it's that kind of double standard that made me withdraw my kids from this school.

Great instructors, great school but Master Khechen should be ashamed of himself.

Not a good place to learn. The instructors were very "up" and spirited, but nothing of substance was being taught. New material was being introduced before anyone has mastered the previous material. I was always being pressured to "upgrade" to a more expensive plan and only given attention when they wanted money. We left the school not long ago and are trying out a new school.

I have to agree with the comments below. I have pulled my child from this school because he is not learning anything except "games". And I see a lot of students earning their belts without doing the moves right. I don't blame them though. I don't even know if the instructors know what they are teaching. Everything seems like a hodge-podge and is just being thrown togther as they go. If you're looking for a good school, go somewhere else. We did and are much happier now.

I've been to several of the competitions this studio runs and here is what I have seen. The school seems produce some good quality students (a few actually highly impressed me), and many very subpar students that are earning higher belts by just being present and not performing. I actually saw a blue belt that didnt even know his first form so in competition he through a few random weak punches each direction. This is one of many examples. So obviously in this school you pay for your belt and not earn it. Also, when they run competition "some" of their judges are extremely partial to the students from their own school. They will not even watch students from other schools perform their forms, yet rate them low. When students from their school are performing, they pay close attention and give great ratings no matter how good or poorly the student had done. Sorry, but this is a really poor way to run a school. You should have to earn your ranks, not pay for it. And they should treat all people fairly and respect. Since theyre openly not doing this, theyre passing the same disrespectful behavior down to their students.

The best decision I ever made!

I have physical limitations and Master Khecken and his instructors work with me to achieve my goals. The facility is clean. The students are polite. The instructors are knowledgeable. I couldn't find that kind of support anywhere else in the area.
