      Established in 1980, Metro Ministries is a Christian, nonprofit organization that serves low-income children and their families throughout New York City and various urban centers around the world. The organization operates more than 150 sites in New York City and maintains a presence in the Philippines, Romania, Italy and South Africa. It runs one of the largest Sunday schools in the world serving more than 42,000 children with child sponsorships and special programs. The organization operates a child sponsorship program that links over 5,000 children who receive support and mentorship through letters, gifts and personal visits from sponsoring families. Metro Ministries organizes summer camps for poor children. It sponsors the Back-to-School Book Bag Project to provide books, bags and school supplies to low-income children. The organization operates the Boxes of Love program to provide groceries and food items and turkey dinner options to people in need. Its Operation Holiday Hope program offers a range of toys to children. Metro Ministries maintains a location in Brooklyn, N.Y.
