- General Info
- KSS Just as Abraham and Sarah kept the walls of their tent open so travelers could easily enter, at KSS we open our tent' to all interested in Judaism and help people find a comfortable and challenging place inside. We value the wisdom and inspiration of Jewish tradition, but recognize the need for ongoing change within the parameters of the Conservative movement. A Jewish dictum teaches that the new shall be sanctified and the old shall be renewed. This holy synthesis of old and new is apparent even in our architecture. Ours is the oldest Jewish congregation in Brooklyn, still serving the community in which it was founded. The congregation and sanctuary date from 1855. In 1913 leaders from our congregation were among the founders of United Synagogue, the predecessor of United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism ( USCJ ). KSS membership is now three hundred households and growing! Come join our community in prayer, in study and in acts of kindness. Our members come from diverse religious backgrounds. Our programs and services for adults and children are rich and varied. Men and women participate equally in all aspects of the synagogue, which include our lay leadership who lead all Shabbat and holiday services and chant the Torah and Haftarah readings.
