Founded in 1978, Services for the Underserved is a nonprofit organization that provides residential and support services to individuals with special needs in New York City. It serves persons with mental illnesses and HIV/AIDS, as well as homeless and marginalized individuals. The organization offers clinical services to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental retardation. Services for the Underserved additionally provides medical, nursing, psychological, speech therapy, social work, recreational and case management services. It also provides emergency transitional housing services. The organization s case management and support services include individual and group counseling; crisis intervention; monitoring of medical treatments; ongoing education on medical developments; access to home care services; recreation and socialization opportunities; assistance with moving; and maintenance and repair of residential units.
