Unfortunately the system won't let me provide a rating of zero stars!

I waited a year to post this in the event my opinion was based strictly on the heat of the moment emotion (it is not). I think it's fair to say that we all know at least one person with a state issued driver's license that shouldn't be allowed on the roads, the same holds true with Mr. Rainey's professional counselor license. Mr. Rainey was recommend by a minister at my church as a Christian based counselor. I initially met with Mr. Rainey and provided him with background info about the major issues in my marriage, historical information about my spouse that clearly indicates abandonment issues exist, my spouse's family history of depression, the fact that communication was the top issue in my marriage, etc. At the end of the session I asked for book recommendations that might be helpful, made an appointment for the following week, and told him I would do my best to get my spouse to agree to attend. I was DEEPLY disappointed to discover that none of the recommended books addressed the issues we had discussed and that the one thing I had hoped to work on the most (communication) was completely ignored. The following week my spouse and I met with Mr. Rainey and it was the most surreal experience I have ever had. Initially Mr. Rainey looked to me as if I should be running the session, so I put it back to him as "the professional in the room." He kicked it over to my spouse who provided a brief synopsis of our situation (which mirrored what I previously communicated). Rather than focusing on trying to determine the root of our issues and giving us tools and/or suggestions on how to work on our marriage Mr. Rainey chose to provide leading questions that would lead most people at this stage in their relationship to decide there was nothing left to work for. Several times he said our relationship was "dead." Luckily my spouse was smart enough recognize that Mr. Rainey is ill suited to provide marital counseling and chose not to follow his lead. Over 1 yr later we are still married and working with another counselor who has been everything Mr. Rainey is not. I was so disappointed with Mr. Rainey I chose to keep my next appointment. During that session, in a polite and diplomatice way listed off the issues I had with how he handled the previous session, provided specific examples of when he used leading questions to guide my spouse down the road toward divorce, and examples of statements he used that would give most people reason to believe there marriage was over. I also told him that I was shocked by his approach after being told he was a Christian based counselor. He seemed puzzled by this statement and asked if I thought he wasn't a Christian. I told Mr. Rainey that the Bible seems to be very clear when it comes to divorce and nothing about his actions seemed to suggest that he was working to try and help us avoid divorce, but instead seemed to be steering us there. I also mentioned that of the 4 books he recommended none of them addressed issues I expressed and none of them were based in Christianity. Finally, I told Mr. Rainey that because we have three small children there was a whole lot more at stake here than just a relationship between two adults (this seemed to be totally lost on Mr. Rainey, so I have to wonder if he has children and/or if he's read the research dealing with the impact of divorce upon children). After speaking with Mr. Rainey for an hour regarding my disappointment and concerns with how he handled our session he made no effort to apologize or justify his actions, he was noncommital and seemed more focused on taking another $125 payment from me (so much for customer satisfaction and providing a product of value). I am not a religious fanatic but I do believe in God and believe that the lack of God in my marriage and everyday life has had a negative impact upon my marriage.
