Stay away from this business. I trained as a volunteer for two hours at this shelter. It was awful. I asked what was it like to take care of the dogs and was completely ignored. The volunteer coordinator could not answer any of my questions regarding dogs. On my second hour I was assaulted by one of the women volunteers, to be precise I was rudely grabbed and pulled away from looking into a holding room where a dog was confined . Please stay away from this place I will be filing a police report .

I have adopted 2 animals from this shelter. The staff are great! They are so helpful, kind and courteous. I'd been looking at the cats I chose for a little while so when I was ready to adopt they made it quick and easy - asking all the right questions and offering sage advice. The volunteers are dedicated and awesome too!!!

In the last year I have not only adopted two animals from the humane society, I have also started volunteering as well. While I had assumed it to be one of those depressing shelters filled with sad animals in squalid, overcrowded cages, until being inevitably euthanized, I was wrong. The staff lives and breathes animals. They love what they do and the animals are very well cared for. The best part is the turn over rate. On top of being a "no kill" shelter the adoption rate is well over 70% and when they held a free adoption weekend a few moths ago it was an amazing event. Out of the 87 cats, dogs, and kittens, every last one was adopted. That is every animal they had. Every single one. PETA shelters euthanize over 90% of the animals they take in while the humane society finds homes for most of theirs. They continue to care for the am male after they find homes by offering food assistance, free litter, vaccination clinics, lend out have a heart traps, and offer veterinary services to pet lovers with financial difficulties. They also spay and nueter each animal they adopt out to prevent overpopulation. I am lucky to volunteer there and will never get a pet anywhere else.

WCHS is great. They provide a loving environment for the animals. When you walk by the offices most of the time they have one of the animals in there with them. When adopting they want to make sure that it is the best fit for the animal and human both. They also help those less fortunate with food and low cost clinics.

I have worked with WCHS for over a year. The staff totally cares about animals, helping people to find the right animal for them, and assisting those who cannot afford food or medical attention for their adopted animals. Sometimes tough decisions have to be made, and I have seen the staff deal with the public with compassion and caring. The bottom line - the staff is always thinking about what is best for the animals in the shelter which sometimes over rides the wants of people. The staff is always trying to improve and they do a lot of work for very little pay. WCHS needs the support of everyone in Windham County.

WCHS is very friendly. The staff, whether volunteers or employees, go above and beyond with their patrons. They are EXTRA careful with the adoption of their furry friends because they want to be sure they are going to a forever home. The staff and volunteers get very attached to the animals and want to be sure they will be safe, loved and well taken care of. I don't think they could be too cautious. IF I ever had to give up my pet, I would feel assured they would make sure she had a perfect home...

WCHS provides care and support for people and their pets - whether they are adopted from there or not. The folks who work and volunteer there go above and beyond the requirements of the job - making sure that all animals are given the love and attention they need; providing a supportive atmosphere for people who are looking for a new companion. Great work.

I am a volunteer at WCHS and I can tell you from firsthand knowledge that everyone who works and volunteers there thinks about the welfare and happiness of the animals. They treat potential adopters with respect while interviewing them to find the right match for them. Dog and cat food is given free of charge to people in need to help feed their pets as well as low cost vaccination

clinics. The adoption rate exceeds expectations and animals are transported in from other over-filled shelters to fill their empty kennels which are outfitted with raised beds, blankets and a multitude of toys. A first class operation!
