- Primary Care“This inaugural clinical partnership between CO and the QU RFMRP is more than just a curriculum”, continues Dr. Kramer, “it’s a commitment by CO to the educational needs of physicians-in-training and the communities which they will serve, as well as to the needs of such a fine medical institution as the QU-Netter School of Medicine and its students, residents, and forward-thinking faculty.” Says Dr. Marquis, “The QU Rural Family Medicine Program leadership and residents are incredibly grateful for this partnership with Connecticut Orthopaedics. A strong set of orthopaedic knowledge and skills will play a fundamental role in the residents’ future practice as community primary care doctors, and will help us fulfill our mission of increasing access to care for all, especially in rural areas.”
- Family PracticeRunning from July through October, the curriculum saw each of the four family medicine residents spend a full immersive month at Connecticut Orthopaedics. Their schedule included daily rotations in our offices where they gained hands-on exposure to patient care in our various subspecialties, in addition to receiving didactic lectures given by our physicians. Says Dr. Kramer, “Sixteen of our partners graciously gave of their time, talent and knowledge in educating the Netter residents in the various fields of orthopaedics that will serve them well in their futures. It was enthusiastically received by both the residents and their dedicated faculty, and we look forward to our continued participation as an important component of the Netter RFMRP.”

- Carpal Tunnel SyndromeFor rapid diagnosis, our in-office testing includes digital X-rays; Electromyography (EMG) to measure and record activity in your muscles; Nerve Conduction Studies (NCV) to assess nerve damage and diagnose disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome; and Dexa Scans to measure bone density to diagnose osteoporosis. By keeping testing on-site, you won’t have to leave the building to get an X-ray. Plus, our physicians can get a more accurate and effective interpretation for your diagnosis and treatment.
- UltrasoundOrthopaedic ultrasound is highly beneficial for diagnostic and interventional purposes. Our technicians use ultrasound to evaluate soft tissue structures such as muscles, tendons, and vascular structures within the shoulder, elbow, hip, hand, and wrist. If you have claustrophobia, or cannot undergo an MRI, ultrasound allows us to examine you quickly and immediately. We also use ultrasound for procedure guidance during shoulder, knee and hip injections. Orthopaedic ultrasound is just one example of how we’re constantly innovating to provide you with the best possible care.

- Joint ReplacementYour knee is one of the most complex joints in the body, but we make treatment simple. If you hurt your knee and want to avoid the emergency room, you can visit one of our Urgent Care Centers to get an immediate diagnosis and begin treatment. Many injuries can be treated easily, such as with bracing and rehabilitation exercises. If you need further testing or referral to one of our orthopaedic knee surgeons or sports medicine specialists, we’re here to make the process smooth and get you the care you need. Nonsurgical options for treatment can include immobilization (a brace or cast), physical therapy, and over-the-counter medicines (like ibuprofen) to bring down pain and swelling. If your injury is more severe, like an ACL tear, we perform minimally invasive surgery that helps you return home in less pain and begin recovery quicker. Other knee conditions may require open surgery performed by one of our board-certified, fellowship trained knee specialists. If an injury or degenerative condition to your knee joint is causing pain and restricting movement, total joint replacement can restore function and help you return to a pain-free life. Our fellowship-trained surgeons specialize in joint replacement surgery and reconstruction procedures that replace worn-out knees with specially engineered implants. Our knee surgeons are not only the best in Connecticut, but nationally recognized in innovative, patient-focused knee care. You can count on us to find what’s most beneficial and convenient for you.
