You won't find a better kept place, especially for the low rent we residents pay at the Towers. Maintenance answers all calls almost immediately and we are free to be independent because of the help they give us. The staff is great and the place is so clean. Get your name on the waiting list if you want to come here to live because the place is usually full. Wish we had a bus that could pick us up to go shopping. Maybe the MCAT could come to pick us up. This is a great place to live.

my Mother in law has lived here for 10 1/2 years in an efficiency. They have replaced all the windows and air conditioning units in the building. No bed bugs in her room but she sleeps on a memory foam mattress. She has been very happy living here. It is true the elevators broke down once or twice but they are in the process of replacing them. They have put all new flooring in all the hallways, and redone the entry into the building. It is an old building and they try to upgrade little by little. You have to understand it is low income living. I find the staff very friendly and always have, as well as my mother in law did. I felt it a very safe place for her to reside and she was very happy while living there.

Be aware that if you move in here your deposit goes for the apartment you rent. It is not transferable to any other apartment in the building. Therefore, if you wish to move you must pay a $300 fee plus another deposit on the new apartment. If you have been at De Soto Towers for a year, you may get your initial deposit back. However if you have not been at the Towers for a year, you will lose your initial deposit. Most of us live here because we have limited incomes. No matter how unhappy we are with our apartments due to bed bugs or mildew, we cannot afford to move. I do not recommend De Soto towers. The manager is unfriendly to the point of running when we try to speak to her in the halls. She keeps her door closed at all times and has no voice messaging on her phone. To access her, residents have to go through the person at the front desk. If she is questioned, she loses her temper and yells at the residents.

Today my parent called to tell me that now she has bed bugs & my child stayed over recently & a day later broke out in a rash of a sort. After taking him to two seperate doctors they concluded he was biten by these bugs. Not shortly after leaving the doctor, I immediately went to the manager and spoke with her with my parent and son and told her of the occurrence, she not only blamed it on my parent for bringing the plugs into the apartment but would not help her out in anyway to move for commendations or help with any of the cleanup. As for these people are low income, I cannot see how they can afford to do the clean up that's necessary. She reassured us that maintenance came all the time to spray pesticides for bugs but she also said that if you see a bug you have to report it. That have any type of bug, my parent saying that there has never been anyone in her apartment is there a pesticide on a regular basis. Now Being about 6 months into it, the elevators do not work which can be a very hazardous thing because of the elderly that cannot walk down the stairs and be able to get food or medical care I feel it is very unsafe. Also sense tropical storm debbie the water leak into the windows from somewhere above the top of the building are coming in from the windows and it is running into the air conditioning units and fiberglass thus causing mold. That is very harmful for elderly people to breath in. So since this morning We have pretty much had to remove Her bed I love her bedding, brand new pillows and an assortment of other furniture now leaving her with absolutely nothing other than a dining room table, a tv and a desk. My parents also feels that they will have to throw away 90 percent of the clothing because most of it will have to be either dry clean because they cannot take it to a laundry mat. This is definitely going to be Reported to the health department. like I said the management blamed everything on my parent and believed there was no other way these bugs got into the apartment. So now We either clean thoroughly Without guarantee Or move Which cannot happen Because of the finances. Hence the reason why we chose to move are parent there. Now in financial distress And no way to replace The articles once owned what do we do now..... I repeat do not Move your parents into this place They take no responsibility In anything That happens other than cleaning a place up to move someone in so they can get their money... read your hand book before you move in or sign anything..... Also The neighbors have also said That they have had reacurring problems with the bugs and yet the manager playing it safe has said they never.................

Not only do you need to watch out for BED BUGS!!! But also these elevators are always braking down. Both at the same time usually. Remember, this is for elderly people. They are usually trapped upstairs for a day or two unless they can climb stairs. This time it's 3 days so far. Along with the whole south side of the buildings windows leaking like a faucet , pouring in. Waiting on the government to settle a lawsuit against a contractor for the windows. Meanwhile, our parents and grandparents live in the wet mildew. Unexceptable!!! Code enforcement will be called. This is a Government run facility. Just what we need. The government being Slum Lords!! The elderly are afraid to speak out in fear of someone putting them away in even a worse place than this.
