• Dental Examination
  Dentist’s have a large scope of care provided to patients that expands beyond the teeth and gums. This includes ensuring healthy teeth and gums as well as healthy neck and jaw, muscles of the head, the tongue, salivary glands, and other areas. Dentists typically examine the teeth and gums during typical comprehensive examinations. However, they also scan for swelling, lumps, ulcerations and any other abnormalities. Furthermore, when appropriate, dentists perform diagnostic testing for infectious or chronic diseases, biopsies, and screening tests for oral cancer.
• X-rays
  At Boulder Dental Center we offer digital x-rays for our patients. With rapidly developing technology, conventional dental x-rays are being overtaken by a revolution in digital x-rays. With digital x-rays, images can be acquired instantaneously in the dental office. This process is faster, safer and produces images that are at or above the resolution of traditional film x-rays. These images can be manipulated, enhanced, stored and exchanged for referral and other purposes making them extremely useful and convenient.

  Does the plan cover preventive services such as sealants and fluoride treatments, which may save me money in the future?
• Dental Sealants
  It is essential to remember that dental insurance plans are most frequently a business arrangement between the insurance company and an employer. Furthermore, plans are typically established to assist or pay a portion of dental care expenses rather than pay the full amount of dental care needed. Dental plans may discourage certain treatments, for instance, dental sealants are often not covered. Your dentist may however recommend this treatment and in the case of sealants this treatment may prevent tooth decay and hence save you money on future treatments. Therefore, it is essential to know what your plan covers and what its limitations. Often plans do not cover recommended treatments, this does not however mean that the treatment is not necessary or beneficial for your overall oral health. Please do not hesitate to ask your dentist regarding the specifics of treatments and what is covered versus what is necessary.

  There are a number of risk factors for gum disease, but smoking is the most significant. In fact, smoking can even jeopardize the success of treatment. Depending on the extent of the gum disease, treatments can range from professional deep cleaning and medications to surgery. While periodontal disease can be treated, more importantly, it can be prevented. Daily brushing and flossing, regular dental check-ups and quitting tobacco use are the best defenses against periodontal disease.

  Pre-existing dental conditions are not covered by all insurance plans and some plans may not cover treatments such as dental implants, referrals to specialists and other dental needs. Therefore, you and your dentist may agree on an appropriate and preferred treatment method for your dental condition and your dental plan may only pay a portion of that treatment or not cover it at all. Dental plans may also only pay a portion of the treatment that is deemed the least expensive alternative treatment (LEAT). It is important to remember the LEAT is determined by the insurance company and may not always be your first choice or the best option for your oral health.

  Does the plan cover crowns and bridges, braces, root canals, oral surgery and treatment of periodontal diseases?
• Tooth Extractions
  Dentists’ oversight of the clinical team is critical to ensuring safe and effective oral care. Even seemingly routine procedures such as tooth extractions, preparing and placing fillings or administering anesthetics carry potential risks of complications such as infection, temporary or even permanent nerve damage, prolonged bleeding, hematomas and pain.

  The iTero Element system saves you time and trouble by digitally capturing teeth and gum impressions and eliminating the need for plaster molds in most cases. Our digital scans will be viewed with you at your appointment and can also be sent to the lab and used to quickly create your crowns, Invisalign treatment, and retainers.

  “I had a wonderful experience with Kim and Dr. Applebee on December 23. I have had quite a few traumatic and painful dental events starting when i had braces for 7.5 years as a youngster. I have at times gotten pretty stressed just going for a cleaning. Today was wonderful! Kim was so kind and gentle but still got a very good job done. I appreciated her skillful work very much.
