- Dental ExaminationAt South Boston Dental Associates, our dentists perform a complete and thorough oral exam during your initial visit. During subsequent check-up visits, your dentist and hygienist will also include the following...
- X-rays
- Oral Cancer ScreeningOral cancer screening: We examine your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
- Teeth CleaningAt dental cleanings, which you should have every six months, a hygienist will check for periodontal pockets. If you have pockets, she'll measure their depth to determine the extent of the disease. Sometimes, removing tartar from below the gum line and smoothing teeth roots - a procedure called scaling and root planing - can turn the tide and eliminate infection. Over time, gums heal and reattach to teeth. However, in some cases, gum disease requires more extensive treatment.
- Fluoride TreatmentBecause the benefits of fluoride are widely recognized, the mineral is added in low concentrations to drinking water in many areas. It is also an ingredient in most toothpastes. However, children and individuals at increased risk of tooth decay can benefit from fluoride treatments that contain a much higher concentration of the mineral than is present in drinking water or in over-the-counter products. This type of treatment is only available from your dentist.
- Dental SealantsA dental sealant is a thin plastic coating applied to the grooves on the chewing surfaces of healthy, decay-free teeth. Sealants create a physical barrier that literally “seals out” the food and bacteria that cause tooth decay. Properly applied, sealants are 100% effective at preventing tooth decay.
- FillingsThere are several different types of filling materials available to you. Composite and silver amalgam fillings are the most widely used. However, unlike metal fillings, composite fillings can be closely matched to the shade of existing teeth. This makes them cosmetically pleasing in restorations to the more visible areas of the teeth. Our dentists are pleased to explain all the options available to you.
- VeneersWould you love a brilliant smile you could proudly share with the world? If you feel self-conscious about your appearance, porcelain veneers will erase your smile's flaws to reveal a dazzling new look. Patients choose porcelain veneers or Lumineers because they want to...
- CrownsA crown (or cap) is a tooth-shaped covering that covers entire tooth surface in order to restore its original shape and size or to improve its appearance. Whereas a filling restores only part of a tooth, a crown can restore the structure of a much larger portion of tooth.
- BridgesDental bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need replacement or need to be re-cemented due to normal wear.
- Dental BondingDon't let an imperfect smile steal your confidence and dreams. Studies show, people with an attractive smile are considered friendlier, more intelligent, and more successful. If your front teeth are oddly spaced, chipped, or misshapen, cosmetic bonding or contouring can reshape them for a beautiful smile. Bonding adds more structure to teeth to fill spaces and chips, while contouring reshapes existing tooth enamel, softening the edges of sharp or jagged teeth.
- Restorative DentistryYour smile is the first thing people notice about you. Luckily, cosmetic and restorative dentistry has come a long way in the last 10 years. Whether you are seeking a totally new look or simply wish to repair or replace teeth that have been damaged by illness or injury, we can help you achieve the smile of your dreams.
- Root Canal TreatmentRemoval used to be the only option for a tooth that had a diseased or injured pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth). Now, root canal therapy is the treatment of choice to cure such infections and save the tooth. By preserving the tooth, root canal therapy can prevent the problems to adjacent teeth that extraction (tooth pulling) can cause, helping maintain dental health and saving money in the long run.
- DenturesDespite your best efforts, age, disease, or injury can contribute to tooth loss. Without a complete smile, you could experience limitations, like dietary restrictions and embarrassment about your appearance. Today's dentures are comfortable and natural looking, so don't let missing teeth hold you back.
- OverdenturesDental implants, fused to the jawbone, keep the bone healthy and your teeth securely in place. Once implants have been placed in your jaw, they can be restored with fixed bridgework or over dentures. A fixed bridge is permanently secured to the dental implants, while removable overdentures are held in place by a bar and clip, or by one of many other attachments currently available.
- Dental ImplantsDental implants have changed the face of dentistry. Unlike most other restorations, dental implants look and function just like natural teeth – so you can bite, chew and speak with ease. Plus, once they’re in place they are meant to last a lifetime!

- Invisalign OrthodonticsInvisalign uses a series of virtually invisible aligners that are custom-molded to gradually reposition your teeth into a smile you'll be proud of. Generally, aligners are changed every two weeks until the end result is achieved. Invisalign offers comfort, convenience and virtual invisibility during treatment so getting an incredible smile doesn’t have to disrupt your lifestyle.
- BracesWelcome to the next generation of smile design. Unlike traditional metal braces, which can be an uncomfortable and time-consuming treatment option, Invisalign is comfortable, removable and invisible. It is the clear alternative to metal braces. The convenience and ease of use of the Invisalign system have made it the choice of over half a million people. In fact, Invisalign has been effective in giving hundreds of thousands of people amazing new smiles.
- Teeth WhiteningMany things people do on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth. For example, smoking cigarettes and drinking beverages like coffee, tea, cola and red wine can discolor the teeth. Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to whiten and brighten the natural tooth enamel, making it an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.
