General Info
The Fund for Public Interest Research is a national nonprofit organization working to increase the visibility, membership and political power of environmental and progressive groups. Best known for its canvass programs, the organization has developed one of the largest door-to-door and street canvassing networks in the United States. The Fund for Public Interest Research was started in 1982 to develop campaigns and technologies to engage people in public interest advocacy efforts. In addition to canvassing and fundraising, the organization has experience in field organizing, petition gathering for ballot initiatives, voter registration and list building. The Fund for Public Interest Research has partnered with groups such as the Sierra Club and the Human Rights Campaign to expand their donor base and pass legislation. The organization operates in dozens of states and has raised more than $350 million and gathered more than 20 million petition signatures during the past 20 years.
