- Headaches
- Medical Weight LossThe arm between the shoulder and the elbow is a common source of complaint. The arm loses definition with age and the skin can sag. Although weight loss is largely healthy, it can lead to the appearance of loose, non-elastic, sagging skin in the arms amongst other places. Muscular strengthening is of advantage but may not be able to tighten the skin or shape the arm as much as some would like.
- GlaucomaSome medical conditions make blepharoplasty more risky: thyroid problems, dry eye, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, a detached retina, or glaucoma. Check with the doctor before the surgery regarding these conditions.
- Eye ExamDuring your initial consult with Dr. Anagnos, he will review your medical history, allergies and any medications, including vitamins, that you're taking. He will test your vision and assess your tear production. You should also provide any relevant information from your most recent eye exam.
- Pregnancy
- Labor and DeliveryBefore the procedure begins, the doctor will apply a local anesthetic, or in other cases where a larger amount of fat is to be removed, a regional anesthetic (like an epidural during childbirth). In most cases a general anesthesia is not needed, however some patients tend to prefer it.

- UltrasoundThere are a variety of techniques that a physician can use during the procedure. Your needs and desires will have an impact on which techniques will be used. The basic technique listed below is the standard for all liposuction procedures, however in the past few years new techniques like the ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL), the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique have emerged to provide physicians and patients with more options. However, the same basic technique is used in every liposuction procedure.

- Minimally Invasive SurgeryThe pictures herein show patients having minimally invasive surgery as above. The change in the shape of the neck is most noticeable. If there is simply too much loose skin to contract, or the flattest result is desired, full face and neck lift is required. Example #3 is such a person but who did wanted less surgery and quicker recovery. Note the improvement in shape but the remaining skin under the chin. Such a result is the tradeoff for lesser surgery with that anatomy—a patient satisfied with a much smaller operation. Forewarning: this issue is complex and best sorted out after an examination and thorough discussion about the individual anatomy.
- Ear SurgeryEar pinning or otoplasty is a form of ear surgery performed to set disproportionately large or prominent ears closer to the head. Too much cartilage in the concha, the bowl-shaped portion of the ear and lack of development of the natural folds of the ear (antihelix) are the usual causes of large, protruding ears. Protruding ears cause more image problems than any real medical problems. It is commonly sought for children who often suffer from the unwanted attention protruding ears can cause. Children are excellent candidates because their ear tissue is very flexible. Although the procedure is more common among children, almost anyone can achieve successful results with ear pinning.
- Hand SurgeryTive Surgery Residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. Finally, Dr. Anagnos was accepted as a fellow to the prestigious Kleinert Institute for Microsurgery and Hand Surgery.
- Reconstructive SurgeryDr. Anagnos is board certified with extensive plastic and reconstructive surgical experiences. Some of the plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures he performs are listed below (click on the links for more details).
- BotoxBotox treatment is used to create overall facial rejuvenation. The Botox injections temporarily reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles, creases, crow’s feet, and the thick lines that can form on and around the neck area. The toxin injections paralyze nerve impulses thus causing the muscles that cause wrinkles to flatten and become relaxed. The Botox injections give the face an overall smoother appearance and patients look more refreshed. Some studies have also found evidence that Botox can help relieve migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle contractions in the neck and eye areas.
- Eyelid SurgeryEyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure to remove fat, excess skin, and/or muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. This surgery reduces drooping in upper lids and puffiness below your eye. However, the procedure doesn't remove crow's feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles or lift sagging eyebrows.
- LiposuctionThree common approaches to address those complaints are liposuction and arm lift, or a combination of techniques. Both such procedures can be done under local anesthesia.
- Breast AugmentationNorth Carolina Breast Augmentation procedures by Dr. Anagnos increases the bust line by inserting an implant behind each breast. The implant is a silicone shell filled with either silicone gel or a salt-water solution known as saline. Currently, the FDA has restricted gel-filled implants to women participating in approved studies.
- Breast ReductionPatients are almost always put under a general anesthesia prior to the actual breast reduction surgical procedure. The procedure can be done in any setting, and most people prefer the outpatient setting, as it generally costs less. The entire procedure can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, with more complicated procedures taking longer.
- Breast LiftDr. Anagnos will evaluate your health and examine your breasts, and then discuss the variables that may affect the procedure, such as ~ age, size and shape of the breasts, and the condition of the skin, as well as whether an implant is suggested. You should also discuss the position of the nipple and areola, as they will be moved higher during breast lift surgery. Be sure to think carefully about your expectations for the surgery, and communicate them to Dr. Anagnos. He will also explain the anesthesia to be used, the facility where the surgery will take place, and any costs involved with the surgery. Also, be sure to alert him if you smoke, or if you're taking any medications, including vitamins.
- RhinoplastyRhinoplasty surgery can enhance one's overall appearance and help patients to be more self confident. The ideal candidate for a rhinoplasty has realistic expectations and would like to improve the overall look and contours of their nose. While rhinoplasty can be performed virtually on any age, teenage patients seeking surgery for cosmetic purposes are advised to wait until after their growth spurt and asked to evaluate their reasons for surgery.
- Breast ReconstructionBreast reconstruction may be performed simultaneously to mastectomy for immediate restoration of volume and shape or at a delayed time if radiation is planned following mastectomy. Dr. Anagnos is an experience surgeon and continues training to stay current in all advanced restorative techniques. He works closely with the breast cancer oncologists as needed.

- Face LiftThe Weekend Lift is a variation on a surgical technique developed in the early 1990s. This procedure tightens the skin in the lower portion of the face and neck in a minimally invasive way. The patient benefits from impressive results similar to a traditional lower facelift with a lower likelihood of complications and a quicker recovery.
- Neck LiftWhile it is difficult to dispute that full face and neck lift—incisions under the chin and around the ears--often give the best overall result, lesser procedures can minimize that ‘turkey waddle’ in most people.
- BlepharoplastyAll surgical procedures carry some uncertainty and risk. Minor complications associated with blepharoplasty include double or blurred vision for a few days, temporary swelling at the corner of the eyelids, and a slight asymmetry in healing or scarring. Some patients have difficulty closing their eyes when they sleep, following the surgery. Another very rare complication is ectropion, a pulling down of the lower lids. This can usually be corrected with further surgery.
- AbdominoplastyAbdominoplasty, also known as the tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure in which excess skin and fat is removed from the abdomen area causing the muscles in the abdomen to tighten. This procedure dramatically alters the appearance of the stomach, making it look smoother and flatter. Patients with fat deposits or loose skin on the stomach that will not respond to diet and exercise are ideal candidates. Women, who after pregnancy, where the skin has been stretched to a point where it will not go back to normal are also ideal candidates. Patients who want to have more pregnancies or lose weight are urged to wait until after these events. Usually the after effects of the tummy tuck are long lasting if patients maintain a healthy weight and diet.
