General Info
Dr. Eric W. Nelson is a native of Idaho. He completed his medical degree at Vanderbilt University. His general surgery internship and maxillofacial residency program were completed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He served as chief resident of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at Vanderbilt from 1998 – 1999. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Utah and earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa. Dr. Nelson is board certified and a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is currently serving as the delegate to the American Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons from Idaho, representing all of Idaho’s Oral surgeons. He also assists with anesthesia peer review in the state of Idaho. He is on faculty with Idaho State University teaching dental graduates advanced training here in Boise. Specializing in oral implantology, Dr. Nelson lectures locally and nationally on dental implants and bone grafting. He is a Fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), meeting their strict criteria for that distinction. Dr. Nelson is a member of both St. Luke’s and St. Alphonsus facial trauma teams. He is a member of the American Association of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons performing facial cosmetic surgery. He’s also a member of the American Dental Association and the Idaho State Dental Association. He is licensed as both a medical doctor and a dentist in the State of Idaho. In 2005 he was one of four surgeons’ chosen to perform cleft lip and palate surgery for Chinese Children’s Adoption International. The team traveled to Xining, China to perform cleft lip and palate surgeries on orphans.
