- Dental CareGrade 1: The gums are red and inflamed from tartar and infection (gingivitis), but the infection has not yet spread to the tooth root and bony structures (periodontitis). The gums may be tender, but the tooth is not painful. The condition is completely reversible with a dental cleaning and home care.
- VaccinationTo ensure quality control and adequate protection, vaccinations and parasite testing must be provided by a licensed veterinarian. If your pet is a patient at our hospital, we will already have your records.
- Behavioral CounselingPet Resort Manager Erin Taylor has worked for the pet resort since 2012. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Central Missouri, is a member of the International Boarding and Pet Services Association and is Fear Free Certified. She has a strong interest in dog behavior and training, as well as gentle handling techniques. In her off time, she enjoys training and competing with her dogs in a variety of sports, including agility, rally obedience, and Fast CAT.
- Nutritional CounselingThe symptoms are similar to other respiratory diseases and include fever, coughing, runny nose, loss of appetite, and lethargy. Up to 20% of infected dogs develop a serious infection with pneumonia. Seniors, puppies, and brachycephalic breeds often become sicker and require additional medical treatment.
- Comprehensive ExaminationVeterinarians are trained to detect abnormalities on physical exam that owners might miss, such as heart murmurs, abdominal organ enlargements, ear and eye conditions, and many other problems which pets can not communicate. Early detection, recognition, and timely intervention of medical conditions are the key to successful treatment and a long, healthy life for pets.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlPuppies/kittens should receive a series of fecal tests and dewormings and adult companion animals should have a health assessment and fecal test every 6 to 12 months. We perform and recommend fecal testing by centrifugation, which has been shown to be much more reliable than the more common fecal floatation. Please bring a fresh, tea spoon sized stool sample in a zip lock baggie to your wellness care appointment.
- Pain ManagementLibrela is different from other treatments in many ways. First, it’s a long-acting monthly injection given by your veterinarian for pain control, so you won’t have to worry about giving daily oral medications. Second, it’s a monoclonal antibody that targets a key culprit of OA pain and works in a similar way to the body’s own natural antibodies. Third, it has a much lower occurrence of side effects than some other OA medications. You can read more about how Librela works and its many benefits here.

- Knee Problems TreatmentAmazing care and talented staff. I was referred to Blue Springs Animal Hospital from my primary vet so my dog could have medial luxating patella surgery to fix her knee. I received a personal call from Dr. Rodier to go over the procedure, answer all my questions, provide a quote, and schedule the surgery. After surgery, again received a personal call from Dr. Rodier to go over how the surgery went and provide an update on how Anja was feeling. Throughout each step of the long recovery process, I was impressed with the care and time Dr. Rodier and all the vet techs took to be sure I had every question answered and was comfortable with Anja's care. Anja has now fully recovered thanks to Dr. Rodier's talent and expertise and the wonderful care from everyone in the office. I will recommend Blue Springs Animal Hospital (and Dr. Rodier in particular) for orthopedic surgery needs and for boarding. The Pet Resort is the only place we are comfortable leaving our dogs on vacation, we know they receive the best care. Thank you Blue Springs Animal Hospital!
- Heart Disease TreatmentBlue Springs Animal Hospital offers veterinary cardiology services in the Kansas City area, including echocardiography (heart ultrasound) to diagnose and treat heart murmurs and other conditions affecting the heart.
- Kidney Disease TreatmentWellness Blood Work is like an internal physical examination for your pet. It can detect hidden diseases like diabetes, kidney disease, thyroid disease, and anemia which can not be diagnosed based upon symptoms or a physical exam alone.
- Periodontal Disease TreatmentTeeth which feel loose or have pockets will have X-rays to evaluate for bone loss and root abscesses. Our goal is to preserve teeth whenever possible. But, teeth which are loose, abscessed, or have irreversible (Grade 4) periodontal disease will be a continued source of pain and infection. These teeth should usually be extracted to allow the gums and jaw bone to heal.
