Established in 1883, the Bloomfield Fire Department is a public safety agency. The department maintains a communication center that coordinates responses to fire, police and medical emergencies. It maintains a fire suppression force that is comprised of more than 80 individuals. The Bloomfield Fire Department supports an inspection program that enables line firefighters to visit and inspect businesses and apartments. The department operates a fire prevention bureau that is a local enforcement agency to administer uniform fire codes of New Jersey within the township.
