Knife River Corporation mines aggregates and markets crushed stone, sand, gravel and related construction materials, including ready-mixed concrete, cement, asphalt and other value-added products. Founded in 1917, it also performs integrated construction services. Knife River Corporation is among the top 10 sand and gravel producers in the United States, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It also has experience manufacturing and distributing liquid asphalt and cement and recycling used petroleum products. Knife River supplies materials and services to public and private sector customers. In 2005, it contributed more than $55 million in earnings to MDU Resources Group, its parent company. Knife River has operations in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, Washington and Wyoming.
