Dakota Coal Company controls rights to lignite reserves throughout North Dakota. The company provides financing and marketing services to the Freedom Mine. It produces lime reagent products. It also manages the Montana Limestone Company and the Wyoming Lime Producers. It is a subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative, a wholesale power supply company. Basin Electric Power Cooperative and its subsidiaries employ more than 1,800 employees. It generates and transmits electricity throughout the United States. It produces and markets valuable byproducts and coproducts, such as phenol, anhydrous ammonia, ammonium sulfate, carbon dioxide, liquid nitrogen and naphtha.
