- General Info
- Founded in 1960 The Bethel Historical Society is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Bethel’s history through acquisitions and conservation of property & artifacts and the recording and retelling of stories of local interest. Dedicated to the education of the people of Bethel and surrounding communities, our recent major projects include the bronze Barnum statue (in honor of his 200th birthday) that watches over downtown Bethel, and a short film on The Stony Hill Inn (And the Swans Still Swim). Events for children and adults are held on a monthly basis and encompass our collection and archive displayed regularly at The Bethel Museum and the now opened Art Young Gallery - both of which reside in our beloved home - the historic 1842 Second Meeting House on Main Street in Bethel.
