As a new homeowner, my worst fear after moving in was that something expensive would break and take my house down with it. So I panicked a little bit when I discovered a leak under my dishwasher early on a Saturday morning. I called around to a couple of local places that I found on yellowpages.com, and spoke to a friendly and helpful dispatcher at Riley Plumbing and Heating. She said that a plumber would be calling me back shortly.
I'd heard that line before, so I wasn't too optimistic, but within 5 minutes I had received a call back from Jason. Since it was a weekend service call, he informed me of a service charge that I would be billed for just to have him come out. I agreed to the charge and he said that he would be right over -- within an hour he was at my door. Once he arrived, he was dressed very professionally, and he treated me, my home, and my dog with the utmost courtesy and respect.
After assessing the situation, identifying the problem, and tightening the exposed pipes that fed into the dishwasher, Jason explained my options. To be on the safe side, I opted to authorize him to remove the dishwasher, run it, and do some diagnostic testing. All along the way, he explained what he was doing, and allowed me to look on and see what he was working with. I learned quite a bit just by talking with him and observing his work.
Jason also very kindly helped me label all of the exposed plumbing and shut-off valves in the basement, pointing out things to look for and giving me some advice on how best to dry out the water that had collected below the dishwasher in the basement.
All of that would have earned Jason and Riley Plumbing a 4-star review, easily. The reason that I am giving them a 5-star rating is because after explaining how the problem was probably created (by me attempting to slide out the dishwasher without shutting off the water or disconnecting it), Jason never made me feel like a doofus. What I did was undoubtedly stupid, but I was never scolded, brushed off, or treated like a know-nothing sucker. Jason answered all of the questions I had to my satisfaction, and conducted himself with the highest level of professionalism that I have ever seen. His patience, kindness, and knowledge are unmatched, and thanks to Jason's help, Riley Plumbing has earned my business should I ever require their services again.
