South Middle School offers educational instruction to students in grades six through eight. The school has an enrollment of more than 900 students and is part of the Belvidere Community Unit School District 100. It offers classes in English, computer science, language arts, math, health education, science and technology, social studies, arts and crafts, music and physical education. The school provides guidance services through counselors to help students adjust to school life, plan careers and discuss problems and concerns dealing with personal growth and social development. It organizes various athletic events, concerts and programs. The school has athletic teams in volleyball, football, cross country, basketball, cheerleading, poms, wrestling and track and field. Its nurse provides free medical advice. The school offers various extracurricular activities, such as student council, drama and video clubs, yearbook and science Olympiad.
