The Banning House Lodge in Avalon, Calif. is a 1910 lodge that is as close to luxury as anything found in its area. Its rooms have oak furniture and lace curtains. There is a free shuttle that transports its guests to and from the village. The Banning House Lodge bolsters 11 rooms. There are no room phones, no room TVs and no smoking. The lodge does serve a continental breakfast that consists of cut fruit, bagels and muffins, hot or cold cereal, yogurt and drinks. Patrons consider the lodge to be tastefully decorated with portable fireplaces to keep them warm. Its gardens are colorful and patrons can choose a patio or living area, with a stone fireplace, where they can read or watch the sailboats. A footpath (or shuttle) leads to a very small 'town' with a snack bar, store, and restaurant.
