The Fleet Services Department offers a maintenance and repair program to provide services, such as preventive and scheduled maintenance and unscheduled repairs for city vehicles. It has a staff of mechanics that are certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. The department is a part of the City of Austin in Texas, which operates a range of other departments, such as fire, law, library, health and human services, police, parks and recreation and public works departments. Its public works department installs and maintains traffic signals and markings. Its police department provides prevention services against thefts, rapes, domestic violence and burglaries.
