- Child SupportWhen parental rights are terminated, the parent who isn't in custody of the child is stripped of all rights and obligations in connection with a child. Those include the right of visitation and the obligation of child support. That occurs in one of two ways. First, the parent who isn't in custody of the child can voluntarily surrender his or her rights. The other way is to petition a court to terminate the parental rights of that noncustodial parent. In either case, you'll want a knowledgeable, experienced and respected adoption attorney representing you.
