Based in Athens, Tennessee, the Athens City Public Works serves the people through public work department. The department offers a wide range of services, such as sidewalk arboretum, ymca green parking lot, recycling programs and automated sanitation to name a few. The City of Athens, E.G. Fisher Public Library, Athens Area Council for the Arts, E.D.I. Designs, Environmental Protection Agency and Tennessee Department of Transportation participated in this cooperative effort to create an arboretum of native tree and plant species. To enhance traffic safety and improve maintenance operations, Athens Public Works uses technology to inventory all street signs in the city. Athens City Public Works is a member of the American Public Works Association.
