Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School has a staff of more than 40 teachers that provides academic instructions to more than 600 students in grades six through eight. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school provides various athletic events, including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, softball, cheerleading, cross country, and track and field. It offers a wide range of extracurricular activities that include band, chorus, orchestra, yearbook, school newspaper, gardening club, spelling bee, geography bee, academic bowl and talent identification program. The school provides educational classes in language arts, math, social studies, science, foreign language, reading and physical education. Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School is a part of the Clarke County School District and is located in Athens, Ga.
