This is where he met his wife Susanna, also a physician. After medical school they moved to Augusta, GA to pursue Orthopedic and Obstetrics training respectively. While in training he and his wife were blessed with two children, Walt and Magnolia.

He earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and stayed in Baltimore to complete an internship in internal medicine at Mercy Medical Center at the University of Maryland. Dr. Chin then completed his anesthesiology residency at Harvard University Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. During his residency, he received the Donald P. Todd Award for excellence in pain medicine and went on to complete his fellowship training in pain medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
