I want to start out by saying that Troy and his company did build a beautiful boulder retaining wall for us. That is the only positive about our experience unfortunately. When we hired Troy he gave us a quote for our project and we all signed it for a specific quoted price. About halfway through the job and after we had paid him more that 65% of the bill Troy started sending us bills that were never discussed or written in the contract. He even tried to charge us for the boulder delivery because he said it more than he expected. He also started charging us for the dirt he was using even though he told us that was included in the original quote. When we said that we were quoted a price for this job and you are taking advantage of us, he became extremely unreasonable, refusing to move forward until these surprise charges were paid. It took several days of very heated phone calls with him yelling at me on the phone before we reached an agreement. I think the agreement was poor because we had to end up paying almost everything he wanted because he was walking off the job if we didn't. Troy was very unprofessional and so hard to deal with I will NEVER use this company again. If you do decide to go with Mountain Landscapes I would be very cautious about the contract he quotes to you and make him write out every expense. I believe he was trying to see how much money he could get out of us for our job.

The second disaster came when we were talking to our contractor who built the house Troy was building the rock wall at. Our contractor told us that Troy had asked one of our contractor's men for help because he hit our septic system with his heavy equipment. Troy never told us this and even lied about it on several emails we have before he finally admitted that he had hit a septic line but he had patched it. Our contractor met with Troy and Troy brought a plumber (at our insistence) to check the septic system to make sure no serious damage was done and that it was properly fixed. We found out that Troy never checked where our septic system was located before he began the job after being given the proper contacts or going himself and looking up the records (like every other contractor or landscaper knows how to do). Troy then began trying to blame everything on our contractor who had nothing to do with Troy's job and our contractor finally had to leave the area because Troy was being so belligerent. I feel that Troy took no responsibility for anything that happened at our house and still thinks that none of this was his fault in any way. Now we have a 6ft boulder wall lying over one of our septic lines that could become a problem in the future, according to the plumber, because of Troy's incompetence on our project. Once again, the actual boulder wall turned out beautiful but is not worth all we had to go through with Troy.

The owner, Troy, did an amazing job on a flagstone patio and retaining wall on my property. He was thorough in his work, creative in his design, and reasonable in his pricing. Super nice guy, and good hard worker. His pond designs are beautiful too. I would recommend Mountain Landscapes (Aquascape of Asheville) to anyone!
