General Info
Arcata School of Massage is located 275 miles North of San Francisco on the beautiful redwood coast of Humboldt County, California. On September 1, 2009, the California Massage Therapy Council began issuing California's first state-wide certificates. The new certificate has two levels of certification for massage professionals. Certified Massage Practitioners have 250 hours of continuous training from an approved school. Certified Massage Therapists have at least 500 hours of total training, passing scores on a national exam, such as the National Certification Exam or the MBLEx or an equivalent out-of-state license. We're pleased to see California keeping pace with the rest of the country, and are now offering more flexible programs for students, depending on their career and training goals. Click here for a link to the California Massage Therapy Council.Arcata School of Massage offers a balanced curriculum which includes both the clinical and the intuitive, providing practical training in both the art and the science of bodywork. With the benefits of our clinic internship, work-trade scholarships, and comprehensive business training, every graduate of ASM who has sought employment is now working... and loving what they do.A Certificate from ASM makes you eligible to take the National Certification Exam and the MBLEx, required or accepted for Licensure or Certification in all but six states that have laws regulating massage. ASM is a California BPPVE Approved Vocational School, recognized by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, the American Massage Therapy Association, and is a member of the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals Massage School Alliance. We accept small classes of students who are dedicated to a life and a career of learning and service as professional therapists. Classes are scheduled to accomodate students who need to work while in school ( see Course Schedules ). We have Daytime classes ( 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. ) and Evening classes ( 5: 30 to 9 p.m. ).All of our instructors work as professional massage therapists, and we teach from our experience. The program includes Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Asian Bodywork, Somatic Bodywork/Therapeutic Treatements, Business and more. Our Applied Anatomy, Pathology, and Body Systems courses are hands-on preparation for the National Certification Exam. Our unique in-house clinic internship ( included in the program ) gives you real-world experience in a full-service massage clinic. Clients appreciate the extra steps I've taken to ensure their comfort and safety.
