SoloHill Engineering holds four patents relating to cell culture operations and has been awarded more than 20 small business innovation research grants. These grants partially support its research and development efforts aimed at creating and producing unique microcarriers for many cell culture applications. In addition to the commercial sales of microcarrier beads, the company also manufactures and sells two other products: calibration standards that are applied to automatic inspection machines which are used 100 percent to inspect human parenteral fluids; and nonblinding biofilters for use in bioreactors and the down stream processing of human pharmaceutical products. SoloHill Engineering also distributes bioreactors that use microcarriers, microcarrier stir vessels and related products. The company has used its own cell culture laboratories to develop manufacturing protocols for producing animal and human vaccines, such as Marek's disease (avian) vaccine and human influenza vaccine, using unique microcarriers in a bioreactor-type environment. Located in Ann Arbor, Mich., SoloHill was founded in 1984.
