The University of Michigan Orthotics and Prosthetics Center is a part of the University of Michigan Health System and provides orthotic devices to support and control motion. Located in Ann Arbor, Mich., the center s team designs, configures and fabricates an orthosis according to the patient's medical records. The university s prosthetic department runs a research-based upper and lower limb prosthetic program. Its program features evaluation of medical history and assessment of alignment, gait and socket fit and patient care and education. The center utilizes computer-aided design and manufacturing systems to develop orthotic and prosthetic devices. Its computer-aided systems feature carvers, digitizers and workstations that utilize a TracerCad software to modify 3-D shapes.
